Pentre Ifan is a Neolithic stone chambered tomb dating from after circa 3,500 BC. Its chamber is formed by a capstone of around 16 tonnes upheld on three uprights about 2.5m high at one end of a cairn some 30 m long.

The castle is constructed of limestone and granite, with sandstone dressings, of a concentric design, comprising a rectangular, high-walled, inner ward with four round towers at the corners, and a lower-walled outer ward broadly following the same line.
